C.E.I. produced reel to reel tape recorders from 1973 to 1977 which were manufactured in Australia. These tape recorders targeted the consumer market. C.E.I. tape recorders used solid state electronics. The company produced 2 track machines available in 220-240v voltages.

Consolidated Electronic Industries (CEI) of Melbourne Australia, purchased the rights to manufacture the 77 Cuemaster from Rola, another Australian tape recorder company.
