Collaro produced reel to reel tape recorders from 1956 to 1960 which were manufactured in United Kingdom. These tape recorders targeted the consumer market. The early models of Collaro tape recorders used tube electronics and later on they transitioned to solid-state tape recorders. The company produced 2 and 4 track reel to reel machines with 110-120 voltages for the North American market as well as 220 to 240v for the European tape recorder enthusiasts.
Collaro R-R transports were purchased by many manufacturers, primarily in the 1960s. These manufacturers would buy either the Collaro Transcriptor or Collaro Studio And design their own electronics and everything else to make a tape recorder.
Collaro was quite diversified but in the world of audio produced gramophones, record players and tape decks.
In the 60s, they were the largest manufacturer of record changers and tape transports in the UK.
