Starlight Reel to Reel Tape Recorders

Robert Metzner who Founded Califone and Roberts Electronics in California, introduced the Starlight 120 reel tape transport and a 60A Turntable in 1958 as advertised in HiFi-Stereo-Review and Audio Engineering magazines. Gearing up to build a factory to make tape recorders takes some time and chances are that by the time these were in production, Metzner realized that the US was unlikely to be competitive in the lower-priced consumer market against Japan. So he changed his game plan and this was a short-lived business making tape recorders in Hollywood. Japanese made Roberts tape recorders would begin to be his focus shortly thereafter.
