Description

A cross-field head quarter-track stereo tape deck (no inbuilt amplifiers or speakers) featuring three speeds, three heads and a hysteresis synchronous 2-speed motor.
Around about this time Akai began to differentiate between recorders (with full audio output stages) and tape-decks only with the “D” suffix denoting the latter.
Like all the preceding Akai models the 150D utilized the same 2-lever control system and a removable capstan sleeve to get three playing speeds from the two-speed motor.
An optional fourth speed of 15 ips was available on request and implemented by using a larger capstan sleeve along with a smaller pinch roller.
