Description

The Sanyo MR 929 was an all solid-state quarter-track stereo tape recorder with playing speeds of 7½ and 3¾ ips. It looked like the designers had ‘borrowed’ a bit of everything – edge VU meters from Uher and Brenell, the joystick and sliding record control switches from Tandberg and overall styling from Sony.

Features included sound-with-sound, tape counter, vertical or horizontal operation, built-in 4 watt (maximum) output per channel and two satellite 4″ speakers in cabinets that comprised the lid of the recorder when not in use.

Fast wind/rewind was slow at 3 minutes for a 1200ft 7″ tape.

A Sanyo MR 929 Mk. II came out a few years later, offering better frequency response at 20- 19,000 @ 7 1/2 IPS
