Description

The Sony TC 388-4 was a two-speed (3¾ and 7½ ips) four-channel, three-head tape deck featuring full control of discrete 4-channel capabilities including a variable pan pot. This enabled the user to record and “spin” the sound around the room for “spectacular” Quad effects. Other features included four illuminated VU meters, a microphone attenuator switch, a record equalisation switch for normal or SLH tape, a tape bias switch, total shut-off at end-of-tape, servo-controlled back tension and built-in reel locks for horizontal operation. The usual Sony feature of mic/line mixing was present, allowing simultaneous recording from two 4-channel sources. The headphones jack had a three position switch.
