Teac X-20R 1/4 Track auto reverse Reel to Reel Recorder with many capacitor upgrades. 3 3/4 - 7 1/2 ips The X-20R shared the Teac top-of-the-line with the X-2000R in the early 80s but is much scarcer and more collectible. Service upgrades... Power supply, record and playback section were all upgraded using high-end capacitors. About 8 hours of service work went into this machine. X-20R All functions tested. Sounds really excellent and makes great recordings. Heads In VG condition. All wood surfaces in great condition. The pinch roller assembly is a little slow to engage which is common on these machines and could be cleaned and lubricated but that's a very time-consuming job to get into the assembly. It's only a minor issue if it has been sitting unused for a while and with a bit of usage, works quite decently. Payment- Cash, EMT or if planning to pay by PayPal, F&F tab- No Exceptions (I've had 1 too many scrapes with fraudulent buyers exercising PP's biased policies.

Description

The X-20R was a high-quality quarter-track stereo tape deck with bi-directional record and playback capability. It was fitted with DBX noise reduction circuitry and had a 10½ ” reel capacity.
The transport system utilized three motors and a dual-capstan closed-loop drive. This system acted to isolate the tape from tension produced in the reels, and hence increase stability because the length of unsupported tape was kept to a minimum. The capstan shaft was kept in firm contact with the thrust bearings by an arrangement of two magnets TEAC called “Magnafloat.” As is the case on X series decks, the more expensive ones, like this one, feature electronic breaking.

Internally virtually the same as a X2000R and significantly rarer.

If you own an X series Teac you may want to read the Service Considerations detail on capstan motor issues.

All my tape recorders are packaged very well and I do not charge for the packing even though it is quite time-consuming and in most cases I need to buy the materials.  I prefer to ship using Canada Post for Speedy Here is the shipping calculator
