Description
Stuck somewhere in between the tail end of the crossfield head (“X”) series and the Glass-Xtal head (“GX”) series, the 250D was, judging by the proudly displayed logo on the head cover, possibly the first Akai reel to reel with a servo controlled motor.
The 250D had 3 speeds (7½ , 3¾ and 1 ips) and had a single auto-reverse function. Transport functions were
relay-controlled and there was a shut off function .Separate line/mic record controls enabled input mixing.
This is quite a rare recorder. not necessarily worth a lot of money, but rather obscure, there being no mention of it in any of my yearbooks or catalogs.
