Description

A rather less-common (and rarely seen today) Akai, the 44S was a departure from the classic ‘M’ series recorders. Utilizing the deck from the better known M-8 but with more compact tube electronics, it was a single motor, quarter-track stereo machine with three speeds. A capstan sleeve was required to attain
7½ ips and a massive flywheel kept wow and flutter to 0.15% at this highest speed.
A single monitor speaker was mounted in the cabinet.

Additional Info
