Additional Details

This was the last of the tube-type ‘slim line’ professional portables from Ampex and was superseded
by the AG/660.  Almost unchanged from the early ’50’s model 600, Ampex had taken this design about as far as they could.
It had three heads, a single motor and a frequency response of 40 to 15kHz at 7½ (this was a single speed recorder with some machines offering the slower 3¾ ips option).

Pictured is a 601-2.
