Description
The Ampligraph 66 tape recorder was offered up at $330 in 1961 as a 1/4 track playback machine with a optional stereo recording preamplifier. Who knows what that cost.
So perhaps at $500 to be a complete machine, It was prohibitively priced for an upstart company in 1961.
The manufacturer claimed that their prototypes had bee running and tested for 2 years. The photograph we found in aa buyers guide pictured here leaves a lot to be desired. Maybe a little better promotion Might have kept Ampligraph in the game. This appears to be the only tape recorder that they made and had the following features
Automatic stop
large dynamically balanced flywheel
unique torque drive and braking system which minimizes tape stretch
