A four-track mono recorder utilising the Collaro “Studio” Tape Transcriptor deck.
Features included a three digit tape counter, two heads (record/play and erase), separate bass & treble controls and mixable inputs.
A subsequent variant, the LZ 29/L was physically identical to the LZ 29 but had grey knobs. The main difference concerned the bias oscillator.
In the LZ29, a single pentode (ECL 86) functioned as bias oscillator in ‘record’ position and as an audio output valve in the ‘playback’ position, whereas in the LZ29/L a separate double-triode (ECC 82) was employed to
function solely as bias oscillator.
Speed stability: better than 0.5% / Valve complement: ECC 83, ECL 86 & EM84 magic eye (add ECC 83 for LZ 29 / L) / Rewind speed: approximately 2 minutes for 2400ft tape / Audio output power: 5 watts / Inputs: microphone & radio / Outputs: headphones, external speaker (3 ohms) / Speaker(s): 7 x 4″ high flux elliptical / Dimensions: 16½” x 15¼ x 6½” (419 x 387.5 x 165mm) / Weight: 35 lbs (15.9 kg) / quarter-track mono
