Description
The RE-301 was a professional recorder, based on the earlier TR-52. The main difference between the two recorders was the RE-301’s ‘military-style’ metal case and the larger VU meter. Other more subtle modifications were in the transport and electronics.
8¼-inch spools could be accommodated and larger ‘platters’ could be placed on the turntables.
Two erase heads were fitted, a full-track for recording stereo (both L&R channels were erased simultaneously) and a half-track mono erase head for recording mono. A stereo record head and a stereo playback head allowed for full-track stereo record/playback or half-track mono record/playback.
