Description

above – M1
below – M1S stereo

The Magnafon M1 was a three-speed,
three-motor recorder utilising the Motek K9 transport.
Maximum reel size was 7″ and wow & flutter was better than 0.02%
at 7½ ips.
There is precious little information available on this model. From the
tape recorder directories of the day we know it was big, heavy and expensive
(a little over £50).
Amplifier output would have been around 3-4 watts and it had a large,
front-facing oval speaker.
The (short-lived) stereo version (pictured below, left) had stacked stereo
heads but required an extra playback amplifier and speaker for full stereo
reproduction.
