Description
The Magnofilm TM-1 was a low-cost tape transport unit which pre-dated the British Gramdeck by at least six years. Like the Gramdeck, the Magnofilm derived its power from an existing record turntable. It was supplied with a single record/playback head and had two speeds: 7½ & 3¾ ips (from turntable speeds 78 & 33.33 rpm respectively).
The chassis was made of of aluminium alloy on which are mounted, the supply and take-up reel spindles, capstan, heads, tape guide rollers & power coupling.
This device was supported at three points, the power coupling from your turntable and two rear mounting posts, which were adjustable. The power coupling was made of synthetic rubber which transmits to a moulded plastic belt and pulley system.
7″ reels could be accommodated and a separate low-frequency erase unit was included. Rewind was mechanical.
