Description
The first Pyrox Magictape ST1 appeared in 1953 and little had changed by the time the ST5 & ST6 came along in late 1955.
Both were single speed (ST5 3¾ ips, ST6, 7½ ips) half-track mono recorders with 4.5 watts output and an internal 9″ x 6″ A.W.A. Jensen elliptical speaker.
A simple, single control was provided for forward, rewind and fast forward.
Time scales were printed on the base plate beneath both reels to indicate
tape usage.
One of Australia’s most popular portable tape recorders of the early
to mid 1950s, the Pyrox Magictape was used by many of the smaller radio
stations and also saw service in educational institutions.
Price when new (in 1956) was £135. 8s 4d

mixing unit (£5/19/6). stethophone headset (£7/14/10). on/off
