Description

Manufactured by the Magnetic Recorders Company of England, the Reporter was a portable, battery-operated recorder with wind-up spring motor and battery powered amplifier. The spring drive lasted 7 minutes at 7½ ips and the recorder could be adjusted for 3¾ ips.
A single control marked “off”, “playback” and “record” took care of the transport functions. The standard model had provision for headphone playback only while the deluxe model included output amp & speaker.
The motor was wound up with a crank handle at the front of the recorder
and then ‘tripped’ on when the knob on the lower front was turned to ‘R’
…record or ‘P’…play.  A circular window in the lid showed that the reel was rotating.
