Description
The 544 G Hi Fi was a quarter-track stereo, 2-speed tape recorder (3¾ and 7½ ips) with an inbuilt monitor amplifier of 2 x 5 watts sinusoidal rating and four inbuilt speakers.
Features included automatic or manual level control. multiplay. slider
controls for volume, bass and treble. horizontal or vertical operation.
7″ maximum spool size and tinted plastic cover.
In a seemingly ‘opposing’ convention, the transport functions were controlled
by push buttons whilst the recorder functions were selected by a rotary
control switch.
Finished in either light walnut or white, the 544G was priced at around
£99 (including VAT)according to the UK 1974 tape recorder yearbook.
