Description
This Saba tape recorder was built in Villingen in the Black Forest. It
was a two-speed, twin track machine built to professional standards.
When recording it reversed automatically and stopped at the end of track
two. This feature necessitated a fourth head (one for erase, another for
record and two for playback)
Other features were 7″ reel size, 3½ watts output from a triode driver EL82 into two high quality 6 ¾ x 4¼ inch elliptical speakers, illuminated relay-operated piano keys for tape control and a super-impose or “trick” record button.
Very fast braking was another feature of the Saba as well as an extremely accurate digital tape counter and a rewind time of 3 minutes for a 7″ spool of 1,800ft tape.
