Description
The TC-800 was a semi-professional
battery-operated portable recorder with a servo-controlled motor for precise
timing accuracy. A variable pitch control (optional extra) allowed fine
speed tuning and reels of up to 5″ diameter could be accommodated.
Three electronically controlled tape speeds (7½ , 3¾ and
1ips)
were provided and automatic tape lifters protected heads from wear during
fast forward and rewind. Sony’s ‘Sonomatic’ recording control automatically
adjusted recording levels, with a defeat switch allowing manual level
settings.
Power was from 8 “D” size 1.5 volt batteries and an inbuilt
AC adaptor also allowed mains operation.
