Description

First introduced in mid
1970, the series 1700 was a small. lightweight mono recorder and along
with the series 1800 was, I believe, were the only Tandbergs ever made
with a maximum reel size of 5¾ “. Even the battery portable
model 11 could play 7” reels (but only with the lid removed.)
This was a simple, utilitarian solid-state machine with a single speed
(3¾ ips) and was available in either half-track (model 1721) or
quarter-track (model 1741) versions.
The quarter-track had a track selector switch which featured upper, lower
or “DUO” position (allowing both tracks to be played simultaneously
through one speaker).
