Teac 35-2

Description

In production a few years after the excellent Teac 25-2, the 35-2 was not like the later high-end Teac models which suffered from cost-cutting on the electronics. This was a Tascam, part of their relatively new professional lineup and built to go the distance with a separate preamplifier. Unlike the Pioneer RT-2022 which had arrived three years earlier with a separate preamp, Teac chose to keep the connecting cables attached and made room to store them in the back of the transport section. They provided a special RCA for the playback head connection that was the only connector that could be lost. So many pioneer decks became available many years later without the connector cables, which were very hard to re-create or find. A pretty decent deck overall and the one pictured here has a custom-made solid wood enclosure relative to the cheap veneer that was stock on these. Always a real bonus to have a four head deck that does half track recording with switchable quarter track playback making it much more versatile.

Apparently a 35-2B was available but so far we don’t know what that was about.
