Description

The Teltape was one of the first ‘economy’ battery portables. This was an all-transistor, full-track mono recorder with a single motor rim drive. The maximum reel size was 3″ and as the pictures show, it was a very simple little unit.
Being a rim drive, the take-up reel pulled the tape past the heads and as it filled, the tape speed would rise due to the ever-increasing diameter it was being wound on to. This meant that tapes recorded on the Teltape would not play back on constant speed recorders.
