Description
Likely V-M’s first completely stereophonic tape recorder. Introduced in 1963 as the model 740, the recorder and speakers (model 40) came in two separate lightweight units with the speaker case dividing into twin speaker units with a possible separation of 30 feet.
The 740 recorder and two model 40 speakers combined were designated as the Model 741.

Service issues- The take-up reel belt pulled the spindle of the take-up reel against a bushing which caused friction, causing a lot of resistance. A good technician can fix this. Also, the brakes are made out of nylon and with age, the nylon disintegrates. Some owners report making brake replacements out of Teflon.
