The 1980 was a quarter-track stereo recorder with two internal speakers
and 11 watts (music power) per channel amplifiers.
Construction resembled the classic Akai “M” series with the
deck vertically mounted above two record/replay amplifiers.
A single motor was used for transport functions and the recorder had
two heads which could be switched between half and quarter-track operation.
Other features included sound-with-sound, public address function, digital
tape counter, provision for remote foot pedal control and auto shut-off.
