Description
The Trav-Ler (Train-Road-Aeroplane-Vessel-Lasting-Exceptional-Recording) was manufactured by Cassian Ltd of 27 Grafton House, Golden Square, London W1 although the deck itself was most likely of Italian origin.
Taking 3″ spools, the single-speed (3¾ IPS) Trav-ler measured 10 x 8 x 5 ” and weighed 9 lbs (4.1 kg). It was fully transistorised with a neon recording level indicator and required a 9-volt power supply (3 Vidor-Max T.6009 batteries or equivalent).
The performance was what you’d expect from this type of equipment. Frequency response was 150 – 5,000 cps, hum and noise -30dB and wow & flutter was 0.4% Price when new was £30 9s. with a Lustraphone microphone.
