Ampex Tape Catalogs of Prerecorded Reel to Reel Tapes 1965-1975
The Ampex Stereo Tapes Division in Hackensack NJ opened in early 1965. This was the primary Ampex facility for mastering 4 Track reel-reel, cassette and 8-track tapes. Very quickly, in 1966, the duplication was shifted over to Elk Grove Village outside of Chicago. The overall quality of Ampex prerecorded reel to reel tapes is quite good, having used pretty decent (but not the best) tape formulations that were available at the time. These catalogs list virtually all the prerecorded tapes that were manufactured by Ampex during this 10 year period.
