Hi - this Akai player was bought in Kuwait in the late 70's, and has been in storage for 25 years at least. As you can see its a bit noisy but plays, FFWD Rewind & reverses. There is some minor damage/scratch to the case, but I have a video of it working - PM me for it if you are serious. It sounds pretty good even with 40 year old tape running through it. Please note buyer collects from NW Kent, dont want to risk shipping it.

Description

A smartly designed, solid state stereo ‘Custom’ deck with auto reverse and featuring three heads: erase, combined record/playback and an Akai patented cross-field head bias.
Auto reverse was enabled via foil tape inserts for continuous playback in both directions .
Three motors were employed. a hysteresis synchronous three-speed motor for capstan and two 6-pole outer-rotor motors for supply and take-up reels.
Slide type level controls were provided and the standard Akai two-lever transport operation was retained. Tape lifters ensured quiet wind/rewind and ensured minimum tape and head wear. Other features included a solid state pre-amplifier with two integrated circuits (a BIG deal back in the early 1970’s!) , mono/stereo track selector, 100 kHz bias for FM multiplex recording, auto stop/shut-off and instant stop/start button, automatic tape speed equalisation, automatic pinch wheel release, DIN connector with switch for HI/LOW input, headphone jack, 4-digit index counter and oil-finished wooden cabinet.
