Two Uher Royal deluxe reel to reel. Were owned by my father. Complete with operation, service and parts manuals. Quick check done. Motors run but suspect belts have perished. Description
This was Uher’s first recorder designed for horizontal or vertical operation, and it incorporated a number of sophisticated features including inter-changeable head assemblies for half-track or quarter-track operation. Four tape speeds were provided, from 7½ ips to 15/16 ips. This is Uhers first model with parabolic heads so it did not need pressure pads which previous models had used.
As in earlier Uher models, a built-in ‘Dia-Pilot’ was provided to automatically send switching impulses to a slide projector fitted with the necessary automatic mechanism.
Reels of up to seven inches in diameter could be accommodated and the output power was claimed to be 2 x 10 watts into 4 ohms.
To consider when buying a used Royal deluxe…
Check the pinch roller for roundness as in its idle position it is pressed against the capstan shaft and may cause issues if left in that position for long periods of time.
