Description
A four-track stereo tape
recorder with three tape speeds (7½ , 3¾ & 1
ips) and a seven inch reel capacity.
The transport employed a 4/8 pole self-lubricating hysteresis synchronous
capstan drive motor and two eddy-current outer-rotor reel motors.
This was an auto-reverse machine (play only) and available as either
a tape deck with no internal audio amplifier or speakers (GX-220D) or
with an inbuilt amplifier (GX-220).
From the pictures at left you can see the extra bass/treble control (to
the left of the VU meter) for the audio output section of the GX-220.
Three heads were used. GX record and playback plus an erase head.
Equalisation was set to the NAB curve and frequency response was 30 –
25kHz 3db
using low-noise tape.
Additional images of this recorder are supplied on the Get Reel Contemporary
Classics CD-ROM.
