Description

The GX-280D-SS was a four channel, four-head, three-motor relay controlled machine, with auto-reverse and auto play. In stereo mode, the auto reverse function operated on playback only.
However, in 4-channel mode, as there was no reverse side, ‘auto-repeat’ was selectable. The tape, reaching the end of side one, would activate ‘rewind’ (a piece of sensing foil was required on the tape-end) and, upon sensing another foil at the beginning of the tape, stop it and go into playback mode again.
Two tape speeds were provided, 3¾ and 7½ ips and a maximum reel of 7″ diameter could be accommodated.

Additional Info

Rewind speed: 68 sec. (83 sec.) using a 1,200 ft tape at 60 Hz (50 Hz) / 4-track, 4-channel
