Description
The TK 23L (sometimes called TK23 ‘A’ for ‘automatic’ in some literature) was similar in appearance to the TK 23 but quite different electronically.
Like the earlier TK 23, this was a quarter-track mono single speed (3¾ ips) machine with a maximum reel capacity of 5¾ inches. The TK 23L however featured a fully automatic recording system which set the input signal to optimum level for ‘worry-free’ recording while at the same time maintaining maximum dynamic range. This automatic system could be overridden and the EM84 magic ribbon recording level tube used in conjunction with the record level control.
