Description

Designed by Frank Underhill, the Planet tape deck began life on the drawing board in 1957 and finally launched as the U1 in 1962. It was manufactured by Planet Projects Ltd. Goodman Works. Bellvue Road, Northolt. Middlesex.
Intended for use at the high-end of the market, the U1 was an attractive,
well-engineered and solidly-built single motor deck with three tape speeds
and solenoid push-button controls. Three heads were fitted (half-track mono) with provision for a fourth
head. Excellent speed accuracy and wow and flutter figures were obtained thanks
largely to a large brass flywheel.
