Additional Details

Description

A broadcast or studio deck which was produced from 1954 to 1957 with few cosmetic changes over that period. Both the M5 and M5A offered two ranges of tape speeds.
The M5 was a three speed unit – 76, 38 and 19 cm/s (30, 15 & 7½ ips) or 38, 19 and 9.5 cm/s (15, 7½ & 3¾ ips)

The M5A was a two speed only model, 76 and 38 or 38 and 19 cm/s (30 and 15 ips or 15 & 7½ ips).
The M5 had two motors, one for capstan drive and the other for fast winding. There was no internal monitoring speaker and the unit appears to have only two heads.
