Description
Associated Cine Equipment of Bexley Road, Kent, produced their first tape recorder, the Model 8, in early 1952.
It featured an 8″ Wharfedale ‘Bronze’ speaker in the detachable lid and a 10-watt push-pull amplifier, making it ideal for public address or cinema sound-track duties. The Model 10 was released shortly after with an elliptical speaker and non-removable speaker while the Model 12 (pictured) with its 10″ Goodmans speaker again in the detachable lid followed towards the end of 1952.
Features included three speeds(3¾ 7½ and 15 ips), half track mono heads, microphone and line inputs with basic mixing and an attractive fake alligator-skinccovered wooden case with an ornate ACE logo speaker grill.
Price when new was £65 for the Model 10 and £66-10 the Model 12.
Many thanks to Barry Jones for the information on ACE contained in his excellent publication ‘ A guide To British tape recorders” and to Stuart Blacklock for the pictures of his Model 12.
