Description
First released in 1959, the Model 910 Universal “A” was a two-speed (7½ & 3¾ ips) tape deck with a single motor and three heads. It was a development of the 1956 “A” series. Stereo playback (both half and quarter-track) was possible but the machine only recorded in mono.
Matched 10 watt speaker/amplifier units (model 2010) were available, fitted with an Ampex-designed 8″ PM speaker.
In early 1960, the Model 960 appeared, physically identical to the 910 but with full stereo record and playback facilities. Both machines had a 7″ reel capacity, auto end-of-tape stop, single VU meter and high impedance mic and line inputs with input mixing. By 1963 the 900 series had evolved into the
1200 series and finally, the F-44 Fine Line series in 1964.
