Description
Chitnis was one of the first British recorder manufacturers to recognise the potential of the new quarter-track stereo prerecorded tapes that were coming on to the market in the late 1950s and so he modified the single speed Elektron 9S deck by fitting twin amplifiers and sold them under his own name as the 9/SK4, renaming it the Chitnis “Audiograph 9/SK4 in 1960 .
These single motor, single speed recorders featured Bogen heads and were operated by a small central keyboard flanked by rotary gain controls. Only one small internal speaker was fitted for monitoring purposes but outputs were provided for external left and right speakers for full stereo reproduction.
