Description
Released in late 1966, the Statesman was a 5¾” reel recorder with a new K12 Motek deck. The K12 was powered by a two-pole twin coil motor and had four speed operation. 7½ to 15/16 ips. It was the only British machine to offer this low speed. It was available in both half or quarter-track versions (£30 9s & £33 12s respectively).
Two sets of piano key controls were grouped at either side of the head block with transport functions on the right and amplifier controls on the left. Rotary gain and tone controls, inputs and magic eye level indicator were located along the front.
Features included superimposition, input mixing, monitoring via headphones, parallel track playback (quarter-track version only), 1½ watt output and 7 x 3½” internal speaker. The Statesman was housed in an all-wood cabinet with a teak/grey/black colour scheme and bright lustre fittings and trim
