Founded in 1960, Toshiba Musical Industries released on the Toshiba records label and also produced and distributed labels from outside Japan such as EMI & Blue Note.
Some of the artists that they released in Japan on record included Nat King Cole, Les Paul, Peggy Lee, Ornette Coleman, Frank Sinatra, the Beach boys, Grand Funk Railroad & T.Rex.

British owned EMI group Limited purchased Toshiba’s final 45% of the company in 2007 and it became part of Universal music Japan in 2013.
