Description
This was a combination reel to reel/cassette stereo recorder available as either a self-contained unit with internal amps and monitor speaker (GX-1900) or as a deck only (GX-1900D). Two-way transfer was achievable, either from cassette to reel or visa versa. A single hysteresis synchronous 2-speed motor was employed, coupled to a jumbo flywheel maximized tape speed accuracy and minimized wow and flutter. GX heads were used in the cassette recorder but not in the reel to reel section.
A low-noise, silicon transistor record and playback equalizer amplifier ensured optimum eq at both tape speeds and tape lifters were employed on the reel unit during fast wind. Other features included automatic stop and shut-off, large illuminated VU meters and the standard Akai pause/start button coupled to the twin-lever transport controls. The cassette unit utilized push-tab buttons.
