Additional Details

Description

A combination stereo reel-to-reel recorder and 8-track cartridge with the ability to transfer from tape to cartridge. The Akai patented cross-field recording system plus one micron gap heads
gave very good frequency response and low distortion. Three motors were employed, a hysteresis synchronous 3-speed motor for capstan and cartridge unit plus two 6-pole outer-rotor motors for supply and take-up reels. Auto reverse was available via foil tape inserts for continuous playback
in both directions .
Other features were: auto-shut-off, cartridge automatic stop and continuous play, twin VU meters, 4-digit index counter, S.R.T (Super Range Tape) switch for low-noise tapes and remote control for cartridge program selector. The X-1810 had an internal 5-watt per channel (continuous) power amplifier and two 4″ internal speakers for monitoring only. Extension speakers could be attached. A deck-only version, the X-1810-D, was also available and was identical to the X-1810 except that it had no audio output section or speakers.
