Description
For several years around
about the early 1970’s, Akai produced a number of combination reel to
reel recorders with integrated 8-track cartridge or cassette recorders.
The X-2000SD had both. With this machine you could dub from tape to cartridge
or tape to cassette.
The recorder had two built-in 4″ speakers and an 8 watt RMS per
channel power amplifier.
Featuring Akai’s crossfield bias system, the X-2000SD had a single, two-speed
capacitor motor and three tape speeds for the reel to reel section (7½ , 3¾ & 1
ips). The cartridge unit ran at 3¾ ips and the cassette at the standard
speed of 1
ips.
Fast rewind for the open reel section was150 seconds for 1200ft and 80
seconds for cassette.
