Description
The X330D deck (and its counterpart the X330 with amplifiers and speakers) was one the second Akai to support 10½ reels without the use of special adaptors and pulley-driven outriggers. It was a quarter-track stereo machine with three speeds, three motors and continuous auto-reverse by programme. There were four heads, erase, record, playback and crossfield bias. The tape heads moved mechanically in auto reverse mode.
Other features included magnetic brake auto-stop, auto shut off, remote control, tape/source switch for monitoring and back-tension adjustment for different size reels and tape thickness (up to 7600 ft triple play on 10½ reels!).
