The AS-6000 (and its smaller brother the AS-5000) series of tape decks were semi-professional, three motor machines with three heads. Featuring a 10½ ” reel capacity, it was available in both half-track (AS-6002) and quarter-track (AS-6004) stereo versions. An extra playback head could be fitted so that both half and quarter-track tapes could be used.
The AS-6000 was available in two different tape-speed combinations, the high-speed version (suffix “38 S”) with 15, 7½ and 3¾ ips and the standard version with 7½ , 3¾ and 1 7/8 ips.
