Description

Released in August 1964, the Automatic 2 & 4 were single-speed (3¾ ips)
recorders available in either two or four-track mono versions.
This unit had a maximum reel size of 5¾”,an internal 7″ x 4″ speaker and a 3½ watt output.
Basically an update of the Popular 200 & 400, one of the new features (hence the name) was automatic
control of the recording signal level.
Inputs were provided for mike, radio/gram and telephone adaptor and there was provision for connecting an external loudspeaker and/or amplifier.
The tape deck utilised was the BSR TD2.
Bradmatic half-track record/play and erase heads were used in the Automatic 2 while Marriott “X” type quarter-track heads were used in the Automatic 4.
Prices when new (UK) were: 26 Gns – Automatic 2  28 Gns – Automatic 4.
