Description

This
was one of Grundig’s first recorders and the very earliest versions recorded
on the lower track. Later there was a modification kit available to to
enable the machine to record to the normal standard. ie. top track.
From the 1953 service manual:
The “Reporters” 500L and 700L
are portable machine capable of recording on ¼” tape.
The machine is a dual track recorder and is able to record and play back
in both directions.  The 500L operates at a tape speed of  7½
ips and the 700L is a dual speed model operating at 7½ ips and 3¾
ips.
An additional model, the 700C is a console
version of the 700L and is fitted with a 10″ speaker and an output
stage giving twice the output power of the 700L.
