Description

A quarter-track stereo, three speed, two head auto reverse tape recorder with a pre-amp control panel designed to be used as a “stereo centre”. Sony described this (rather optimistically) as a ‘professional’ machine with its separate bass and treble controls, balance control and inputs for microphone and two auxiliaries. The drive mechanism featured a dual-capstan arrangement and a ‘Retractomatic’ pinch wheel. Transport was controlled by a single large rotary lever on the right hand side of the deck. Along the bottom were twin VU meters, and underneath a sliding door could be found the red record buttons and input recording level controls. The unit was entirely solid state and featured ‘sound with sound’.
