Description
The 714 was a bit of an oddity in late 1969. With the exception of Tandberg, this was probably the only quarter-track,single speed mono recorder produced and offered as a new model at a time when stereo was all the rage and had been for almost 15 years! The 714 was capable of taking up to 7″ reels and had a single motor, two heads, all silicon transistor construction, a recording level meter with dB scale, stereo tape playback (in mono), four digit tape counter and automatic tape end cut-out.
Uher’s main advertising ploy with this model was its simplicity, robustness and the fact that now not only could NATO, NASA, Royal Navy and the BBC own Uhers, but so too the man in the street!
Price when new was £52. The Get Reel Contemporary Classics carries a vintage test report on this recorder,
