Description
Made by the Viking company of Minneapolis, the model 76 was a quarter-track, stereo tape deck with two heads and a two-speed transport utilising a single motor.
The single rotary function knob can be seen at the top right of the deck showing Rewind, Stop, Play and Fast forward positions. Other controls included record volume for each channel, twin VU meters for recording level, speed selector switch (in between the reels) a stereo/mono
switch and an On/Off, Play or Record selector control.
A third (optional) playback head could be added.
This unit was designed for custom installations and used 5 valves (tubes).
Replaced by the 77 ‘Compact’ in 1964.
