Description
The Van der Molen deck, although co-designed by Mike Van der Molen, was actually built in Italy by Incis, shipped to Van der Molen in kit form and assembled at his Romford factory in the UK. It was a belt-driven three-speed machine with 7″ reel capacity and piano key transport controls, designed for vertical operation.
The rest of the recorder, including the electronics and cabinetry, were constructed by Van der Molen.
A five-watt solid-state amplifier drove an 8″ speaker which was housed in the removable lid. Record level was indicated via a VU meter which sat between the reels at the top of the deck
This half-track mono machine was housed in a handsome teak veneered cabinet and described by the maker as “a symbol of superior British manufacture”.
A slightly cheaper, quarter-track version, VR7, was produced later in the same year.
Price when new was £61 19s
